Sma Mlawu had a dream.

Sma Mlawu had a dream. Well maybe it was her moms dream. “Walk like a doctor” her mom would say. Maybe it doesn’t matter whose dream it was. What mattered was that this young girl, the sixth child, whose family at times had learnt to live off R200 a month, could walk with a sense of a different destiny to the one her situation wanted to dictate. That her ‘walking like a doctor’ was the thinking required to break the chains of a story that wanted to write itself for her.

Doctors heal battered, broken and sick bodies. Over time, Sma realsied that she wanted to do the work of healing battered, broken and sick hearts, minds and souls. Against extraordinary odds, with unimaginably little resources, she completed her social worker degree while living in this home, and holding down a job, sometimes two, at the same time. Despite the circumstances in her life, she never lost sight of that dream. Today she is impacting over 150 orphans and vulnerable children and offering support to their guardians. She is an inspiration to many. And she has a new dream capturing her vision, but we’ll tell you more about that another time….

What is your dream?

Remember this young Sma, walking around a place of great hopelessness like a doctor. Dreaming of bringing healing.

Are there any young Sma’s around you who need that sense of destiny re-ignited by someone who believes in them?
