Baba Ntshingila

“We have to learn to master one day, or we will not be able to master our lives.”

Baba Ntshingila is one incredible human making a difference in the lives of the children and people of Bhambayi. When pondering how to describe this man, whilst no one description would be fully fitting, the word which shouts louder that the others at the time of writing this is tree.

A tall unwavering man, not easily rushed, yet keenly aware of what is most important. A stately man whose roots run deep into an underground stream that is his faith.

One whose roots have been transplanted around South Africa in different seasons, each different soil adding to the tree many now gratefully sit under, enjoying shade that is provided under the strong and protective branches, with fruits that both honour culture and tradition, yet bravely and surely embrace the ways of the future. The things that must change in the ever-growing story of another kingdom invading our broken world.

This husband to 1 of 32 years, father to 4, grandfather to 2, (with more coming soon he chuckles knowingly and hopefully) and pastor to many, understands creating.

He has weathered many storms, overcome deep hurts and confusions, and profoundly understands that we create our lives.

That we decide our futures.

And it is this that he burns with passion to impart.

They must create their future or the devil will,” he says with certainty, about the young high school boys he journeys with at the ReStory Foundation.

We have to learn to master one day, or we will not be able to master our lives.

Baba Ntshingila yearns for all to reach their roots down deep into the well that fuels him, to not settle for anything less. To understand and turn away from all the quick and cheap temptations that will serve to destroy and not create.

“Who is your favourite Bible Character Baba Nsthingila?”

Without hesitation: “It’s David. The story of David shows us that God is not interested in our ability, he’s only interested in our availability.

And this sums up this Great Tree of a man. Who no matter where he is, makes himself available. For some to find peace and comfort under his shade, for others to grow alongside for a season, and for many to enjoy his fruit.

Siyabonga Baba…
